Tony Mowbray has hailed the togetherness at Rovers after finishing the season with a flourish after another win, this time at home to Oxford United.

Two players each got their first strikes in the famous blue and white, with a thumping Darragh Lenihan header and a Jack Payne strike earned the points.

Win number 28 of the season was chalked up before the players and supporters came together after the game to celebrate promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

“Ewood was bouncing and today we showed that Blackburn Rovers are back," a delighted Tony said afterwards. "It’s a great celebration and the players deserve great credit for digging in.

“After the first 11 games we’ve really been excellent. We will try and build again for the Championship to give ourselves a really good chance. Let’s see how the summer goes.

“We should enjoy today and our fans were incredible today. Give Oxford credit, they came and played some good football."

And with more than 27,000 packed into Ewood for the final match of the season, Tony has urged those supporters to return for our Championship journey next term, insisting momentum can be used to give it a real go in the second tier.

“Today showed what this club is all about and it’s an opportunity to use this momentum for next season. The Championship is almost a second Premier League now with the teams in there," he added.

“But we’re going there next season to see if we can get in the top 10. We’ll look to recruit well in the summer and see how we go.

“When you have a special group of players who have fantastic respect for each other, it’s brilliant. We’ll be looking for more characters like that."
