Rising Rovers star Joe Nuttall has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award.

After joining from Aberdeen last summer, the 21-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding debut season at Ewood Park, playing a key part in two promotion-winning campaigns.

The young hot-shot helped fire Rovers Under-23s to the Premier League 2 Division 2 title, with his 14 league goals seeing him finish as the top scorer in the division.

Nuttall also made an impact at first team level, scoring five goals for Tony Mowbray's side, who secured an immediate return to the Championship courtesy of a second-place finish in League One.

With 22 goals in all competitions, Nuttall has been one of many success stories in a superb season for the club and he was rightly rewarded with a new long-term contract in January.

He has been shortlisted for the prestigious prize by the Premier League Football Development Panel, who will decide the winner, who will be revealed at the Youth Development Conference Gala Dinner on Thursday May 17th.

Nuttall is up against some of the country's hottest young prospects for the award, with the full list of nominees as follows:

Tyrese Campbell
Stoke City

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy

Reiss Nelson
