The first team and Under-23s have already achieved promotion from their respective leagues this season and Sunday sees the turn of Rovers Ladies to try to follow suit.
Gemma Donnelly’s side, who have already secured a league and cup treble this term, take on Southern Division champions Charlton Athletic at Bramall Lane in the Championship Play-off final tomorrow, kick-off 2pm.
Rovers’ Chief Executive Steve Waggott, who spent seven years working for Charlton, hopes the Ladies can complete the historic hat-trick and sign off what has been a hugely successful season for the club in style.
“There’s been success right across the board,” said Steve.
“From the first team, through to the Under-23s, the Under-18s lost in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup, the Under-15s won a cup out in Portugal and then the Ladies have just shot the lights out completely!
“What Gemma Donnelly has done with her squad is unbelievable – two cups, the league, into the play-off final this weekend against Charlton.
“I hope a lot of people get along there to watch them and then obviously we’ve got an application to get into the Women’s Super League 2, which next season will be called the Championship.
“Our application has gone in, the interview happened six weeks ago and hopefully Gemma will navigate through against one of my old clubs, Charlton, who are usually strong as well, and then we’ll hear early next week as to what tier they will be put in, so fingers crossed on that one.”
Rovers fans are reminded that the club are putting on a supporters coach to Sheffield United, which will leave Ewood Park at 10am on Sunday. The cost is just £15, which includes your match ticket.
