Rovers Ladies ended their title-winning campaign with a seventh straight league victory, after coming from behind to defeat Middlesbrough 3-2.
Boro led 2-0 at the break, but three goals in a superb 12-minute spell saw Gemma Donnelly’s side complete a remarkable comeback in the second half.
The hosts took an early lead, as Emma Foster’s strong header from a corner looped over Amelia Size.
Saffron Jordan almost pulled a goal back immediately, as smart footwork gave her the space to unleash a shot, but Middlesbrough goalkeeper Laura Wareham was equal to it.
In first-half injury time, Boro grabbed a second, as Emma Kelly played a ball in behind the left side and Tyler Dodds showed good composure to slide the ball past Size.
With it all to do, Rovers stepped it up a gear in the second half, with Jordan and Jess Holbrook both having efforts well saved, before Lynda Shepherd’s header was blocked en route to goal.
With just over 20 minutes remaining, Natasha Fenton scored her second goal in as many games, as her cross-come-shot evaded everybody, including the keeper, and brought Rovers back into the game.
Eight minutes later, Rovers were level, as a wonderful ball to the back post was met by Natasha Flint, who headed home to give the visitors a platform to win the game.
Soon after, Rovers completed the comeback, as Lagan Makin beat three players before cutting the ball back to Jordan, who slotted past Wareham to secure the three points.
All eyes now turn to Sunday’s Play-Off Final at Bramall Lane where Rovers will hope to defeat Charlton Athletic and earn promotion to the Championship.
