Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s BTEC in Sport students were treated to a special training session at the Senior Training Centre by two-time Premier League winner Kolo Toure.
Toure was joined by five other coaches, including FA Cup winner Emmerson Boyce and Rovers’ very own Danny Finch, to oversee a session with more than 20 students as part of their UEFA A Licence qualification.
The coaches split up into three pairs, each running 30 minute drills by going through different aspects of the game including passing and positional play.
Toure, who has played for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, is currently on the coaching staff at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, and he was left impressed with the students’ professionalism and eagerness to learn.
“They were all enthusiastic, focused and worked very hard,” admitted the 36-year-old, who is also the assistant manager of the Ivory Coast national team.
“They did very well and I could tell straight away that they have been training on a regular basis just by the way they play.
“They are a credit to Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and it is a great programme they study. The students are enjoying what they are doing and you can see they love to play football.”
BTEC in Sport students Oliver and Sam, participated in all three different training sessions at the STC, and they thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
The pair emphasised the point that this is why the BTEC programme is so unique at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, because it provides opportunities such as the training session with the former professional footballers.
They said: “It was really good and we learnt a lot from the experience. It is not every day you get an opportunity to be coached by a group of former professional footballers.
“I don’t think many other BTEC programmes will offer what we have experienced as a group. These are the moments we will always remember.”
The BTEC in Sport programme at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust offers students a wide range of fantastic and memorable experiences like this one.
