It was an afternoon to remember on Monday, as the English Schools’ FA Under-18 Boys Colleges’ Cup final took place at Ewood Park.

Almost 70 colleges from across England entered this season's competition, but it was Staffordshire-based Newcastle College and St. Charles VI Form College, from London who battled it out to become national champions.

The two finalists had progressed through six previous rounds to earn the chance to play at Ewood, with Rovers hosting the match for the second successive year.

On the day, amid chilly temperatures, it was Newcastle who made the brighter start, with a side which included three youth internationals.

But St. Charles grew into the game as time went on, and finished the first half strongly as the teams went in level at the break.

Newcastle started the second half as they'd started the first, and took the lead through substitute Harry Baggaley, who raced through on goal and found the corner.

The lead lasted just 10 minutes though, as St. Charles equalised in stunning fashion, through Omar Ahmed-Stitou's dipping 20-yard effort.

Two minutes later, the turnaround was complete as Samuel Folarin was fouled in the area, allowing Ahmed-Stitou to slot home his second from the spot.

Newcastle began to apply pressure thereafter, and were eventually rewarded with six minutes remaining as Baggaley kept his cool inside the area to level proceedings.

But with just seconds left on the clock and extra-time looming, Ahmed-Stitou pounced to score his and St. Charles' third and cap a fantastic individual display.

The winners were presented with a trophy on the pitch after the full-time whistle, sparking scenes of celebration in front of the spectators at Ewood.

We'd like to congratulate St. Charles on winning this year's final, and extend our thanks to those involved in the event.
