Rovers are thrilled to announce that defensive duo Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams have made the final Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming game against Turkey.
The pair, who were called up to the 30-man preliminary squad last week, have made the final cut to be available for selection for the Republic’s upcoming International Challenge match, where they will link up with Martin O’Neill’s side for their clash on Friday 23rd March. kick-ff 5.30pm.
Dunboyne-born Lenihan has played for his country at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level in the past, and should he play against the Turks, will earn his first full cap for his country.
Similarly, Williams could earn his first cap for the senior squad having represented his country at both Under-19 and Under-21 level.
The call up marks quite a few weeks for Lenihan, who has returned from a long injury lay-off and slotted straight into Tony Mowbray's side and celebrated turning 24 on Friday.
Williams has been a mainstay in the Rovers side this season, performing consistently at left back and as part of a back three on occasions this term, after being crowned the club's Player of the Year award in the 2016-17 campaign.
The two defenders will hope to line up at the heart of the Irish defence alongside ex-Rover Shane Duffy for the game in Antalya.
