Rovers link up for pre-season trip

The squad will be heading to Austria for a week-long training camp for the start of pre-season

Rovers' pre-season preparations have begun in earnest, with the squad, Tony Mowbray and his backroom staff heading out to Austria today for a week-long training camp.

The team will be based in the small town of Oberwart in the south-east of the country, close to the border with Hungary, and will be put through their paces after the summer break.

Fitness, tactics, formations and a whole lot more will be worked out, with just four omissions from the travelling party.

Due to their international representation throughout the summer, our quartet of Derrick Williams, Darragh Lenihan, Corry Evans and skipper Charlie Mulgrew have been given special dispensation to link up at a later date with the squad.

Both Corry and Charlie had a couple of games in South America, representing Northern Ireland and Scotland respectively, and played in both matches in May.

Likewise, Irish duo Derrick and Darragh represented their country for a double-header against France and USA fairly recently.

Joe Rothwell will be given his first chance to meet up with the rest of the lads, as he makes the trip.
