New signing Joe Rothwell is already planning to nail down a spot in the Rovers starting XI by hitting the ground running in pre-season.
Our newest capture, Rothwell put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the option of a fourth year after signing from Oxford United last week.
He's linked up with the rest of the squad for the first day of pre-season in Austria, which got underway earlier today.
And the 23-year-old Mancunian is eager to make sure he's in the starting lineup for each friendly and the season opener at Ipswich Town on August 4th.
“Pre-season is probably every footballer’s least favourite time of year but it has to be done and is part and parcel of the game," the midfielder said. "I’m sure it won’t just be running and the boss has said the balls will be out as well, which will be helpful.
“Getting away for a few days allows you to introduce yourself, letting the lads know what you’re like and see what they’re like. It’ll suit everyone and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone.
“You don’t walk in to any team. I’ll come in, knuckle down and hope to catch the manager’s eye. If I manage to do that then the next aim is to cement myself in the team week in, week out."
