This Saturday (30th June) will see Rovers host the annual Inter Madrassah Organisation football tournament for the second year running, and this year's event is on course to be the biggest yet!
The 2018 competition will be held once again at Blackburn Rovers’ Senior Training Centre and children from Year Two up to Year Eight are allowed to participate.
The IMO tournament, which has been named ‘Rovers Stars’ for the first time, will feature team entries from local clubs, madrassahs, schools, academies or any team which falls under the correct age category.
An event with community cohesion at its core brought 600 players from 60 north west teams together last year across seven different age groups and the expectation is for another memorable tournament at Brockhall, with 65 teams signed up so far.
This year will also see Rovers' Under-23s manager Damien Johnson joined by some of his players to hand out trophies to the winning team(s).
Rovers’ CEO Steve Waggott is looking forward to welcoming a number of teams to the Senior Training Centre.
He said: “We are delighted to be hosting the IMO annual football tournament for the second year running. Last year was a resounding success with over 600 players from 60 clubs across the north west participating in a wonderful community day in our first class professional facilities at Brockhall.
“We are always looking at ways of improving the experience by adding additional aspects with our partners. At this year’s event we will have some of our scouts attending to assess the standard of the players with the best performers being given the opportunity to train with our Academy for a couple of days.
“We look forward to welcoming all players and their clubs in what should be another very successful tournament for all concerned.”
