Paul Dowing says the opportunity to play alongside an international defender in Charlie Mulgrew has been a huge benefit.
Paul arrived last summer on an initial loan deal from MK Dons and performed excellently alongside Mulgrew for a large chunk of the successful 2017-18 campaign.
And the 26-year-old admits he's loved the partnership with the experienced Scot and believes he's developed as a player during that time.
“Playing alongside Charlie has been massive for me, learning all the time," Downing told iFollow Rovers.
"I think I’ve played most of my games this season next to him and we have a good relationship and a good record together.
“There is a lot of experience in the dressing room, not just with Charlie, and I think that’s really helped me as well."
The likes of Bradley Dack and Amari'i Bell will be getting their first taste of football in the second tier next term, and Downing is another who will be new to the division.
"We’ll enjoy what we’ve done this season, but we’ll all come back ready for what will be a difficult challenge next season in the Championship."
But it's a division which the ex-Walsall man says he cannot wait to get his teeth into, and is looking forward to the challenge.
“Everyone wants to play at the highest level they can," he adds. "We’ll enjoy what we’ve done this season and we’ll go away and relax a little, but we’ll all come back ready for what will be a difficult challenge next season in the Championship. It’ll be tough.
“There are better players and bigger teams. There will be good atmospheres as well so we’ll go out to do what we can do."
