Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s BTEC in Sport programme is hosting an open evening on Tuesday 26th June, 6-7pm in the Darwen End at Ewood Park.

The open evening provides an opportunity for students, either those who are ready to leave high school education after their GCSEs or currently in further education and looking for a fresh opportunity, to find out why the BTEC programme at Ewood Park is so popular.

The Trust’s teachers will be on hand to offer guidance on the night, go through the course in thorough detail and answer any questions.

The BTEC programme provides a unique experience for students to study at the home of a former Premier League winning football team.

During the scholarship, students can earn qualifications that will help gain employment in the sport and leisure industry – possibly even with Rovers' Community Trust.

Participants will also train and compete for Rovers in a professionally-managed football environment in an 11-a-side games programme against representative teams from other professional clubs in the EFL.

Students will receive high-quality football training for a minimum of six hours per week, spread over a minimum of four sessions (players can still represent their own club at the weekend). Training will be supplemented with fortnightly fixtures against other professional clubs.

Head of secondary and further education David Hayhurst said: “We have hosted a number of BTEC open evenings throughout the course of the current academic year and they have always proven to be useful, for ourselves, parents and students interested in joining.

“The BTEC in Sport programme at Blackburn Rovers Community Trust is very popular and we have had a high intake of students already for the start of September.

“What the programme offers is unique opportunities. For example, in May, the students had the opportunity to play an 11-a-side match at the home of Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End in the same week!”
