The excitement levels for the new Championship season were raised a notch at our Football Camp as Darragh Lenihan and Ryan Nyambe took time out from the last week of pre-season to 'turn' up at the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre.
The key components of the recent promotion campaign were able to take a break from thoughts of clearing their lines or marking opposing forwards with something altogether more adventurous, as they took part in sessions teaching the children new turns before handing out prizes to those who demonstrated the best aptitude for the recently-acquired skills.
Both the Cruyff turn and the Maradona turn were among those being demonstrated by the young defenders, with the children taking the new coordinations in their stride.
Lenihan and Nyambe also took part in a series of small-sided games featuring some of the camp's youngest participants, alongside those who strolled across from the Activity Camp in the Darwen End to come and see the stars of the team at Ewood Park.
"I was very impressed," said Lenihan of the football acumen on show. "There are a few kids here that you may see in the Academy setup in the next few years.
"You never know - these may be the future stars of Blackburn Rovers! They took everything on board and they seemed to have great fun here."
Asked about whether he might be tempted to try a turn or two to weave his way past onrushing forwards when the season gets underway, the Irish international reassured fans that he wouldn't be practising what he preached to the youngsters, adding:
"No... one and two touch - that's my job. I'm not meant to be doing any skills!"
If you think your child would have the perfect summer holiday treat by receiving a cameo visit from a fellow Rovers star, make sure you book them onto as many days as possible of this year's summer Football and Activity Camp!
