After scoring the winner in Rovers' pre-season win over Lincoln, Joe Nuttall says he's hungry for more first-team action in 2018/19.
The striker scored the only goal as Tony Mowbray's men ran out winners at Sincil Bank on Sunday, heading home Craig Conway's cross just before half-time.
Speaking after the game, Nuttall says he's keen to force his way into the manager's plans for the new Championship campaign.
“It’s always good to get on the scoresheet and help the team to victory," he said.
“Pre-season or not, we’re here to win, no matter what. The header was all about making good contact and keeping it down.
“It was a great ball from Bull [Craig Conway] and I managed to make good contact.
“It was a good run-out and a difficult one in the heat, but everyone feels fit. The intensity of training has been good.
“My goal is to be involved throughout the season and get myself into the squad – I know I need to keep working hard in order to do that.
“Last season is gone now, I’ve got to keep working hard and keep trying to score goals to force my way into the team."
Nuttall featured for Rovers' Under-23 side before breaking into the first-team last term, and won the Premier League 2 Division 2 golden boot.
“There would be no point in playing if I didn’t believe in myself. I want to get to the highest level and that’s the goal for everyone in the team," he added.
“You have to enjoy it, but once the game’s gone you have to look forward to the next challenge.
“I think the manager wants to strengthen, but that motivates players like myself. If you don’t perform, you won’t be in the team, it’s that simple.
“I want to play for Rovers in the Championship, and I want to get better and better."
