Rovers midfielder Jacob Davenport says the players feel prepared for the Championship after a tough pre-season and can't wait for the opening game at Ipswich.
Davenport has settled quickly after joining the club from Manchester City earlier this month, and will hope to be part of Tony Mowbray's starting line-up at Portman Road.
Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley, the youngster says he and his team-mates are raring to go.
“It’s been a tough six weeks, but we all feel very fit now," he said.
"We’re glad pre-season is out of the way, it’s all about getting minutes and we’re ready for the season ahead.
“With pre-season done, we’re focused on the first game away at Ipswich now.
“There’s a lot of competition for places, we’re all fighting for a starting place. It’s good competition, healthy competition.
"We know it’s a long season though, so we all have to keep ready for our chance.
“I can’t wait. I want to get into the starting 11 and kick on from there. I’m looking forward to playing in the Championship again. It’s a good test."
Davenport believes that the spirit in the Rovers dressing room could play its part in 2018/19, a message that has been echoed by the boss.
“The manager has said that we can do well this season if we believe and play on the front foot because we’re a good team," he added.
“It’s a very close-knit group, there’s a great togetherness and hopefully the success of last season will stand us in good stead.
"It’s a good set of lads with good team spirit."
Remember, Jacob will be joined by fellow summer signing Joe Rothwell for a special event at the Roverstore this Thursday following the launch of our new away kit.
