New Rovers signing Jacob Davenport says the prospect of playing for the club was one he simply couldn't resist.

The Manchester City midfielder became our second summer signing on Monday, penning a four-year deal at Ewood Park.

Speaking for the first time since completing his move, Davenport says he didn't need much persuading.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to join a massive club like Blackburn Rovers, with the history it’s got behind it," he said.

"I can’t wait to get started and to play in the Championship for this club.

“The history of this club speaks for itself. When Rovers come knocking on your door, you can’t turn that down.

“The manager didn’t really have to sell this club to me, because I already know what a great club it is.

"He told me all about his philosophy and his belief in the way he wants to play, and that suits me perfectly.

"He’s a footballing man and I can see the way he wants to play.

“The last couple of years haven’t been what this club is used to, but going forward I think things are positive.

"Hopefully we can get back to the Premier League as soon as possible."

The 19-year-old has been part of City's youth set-up from an early age, but gained experience in the second tier with Burton Albion last season.

“I’ve come from Manchester City, where I’ve been since I was six," he added.

"I actually had trials at Rovers when I was younger, so the club has always had a place in my heart.

"I was always a City fan growing up, I played for them throughout the age groups before getting a professional deal.

"I went out on loan last year to Burton Albion, but this is my first move away and I can’t wait to get started in the Championship again."
