Rovers Ladies kicked off the New Year in fine style with a thumping 7-0 victory over Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Women’s Cup.
New signing Natasha Flint was the star of the show, grabbing four goals, whilst Lagan Makin bagged a brace, after Kaylea Cunliffe had netted the opener.
It was visitors from the south coast who started the better of the two teams, with Samantha Quayle heading wide from a whipped delivery early on.
Makin then twice went close in quick succession, first with a curling shot that was spilled, before a long-range effort was tipped over the bar.
Flint then tested the Pompey keeper three times around the half-hour mark, before substitute Cunliffe scored a superb curling shot from outside the area to give Rovers the lead.
Cunliffe’s effort opened the floodgates, as Flint scored an almost identical goal for Rovers’ second, before Makin netted her first goal of the afternoon after an excellent move.
After the break, it was more of the same, as Makin lobbed the Portsmouth keeper from 25 yards to make it four.
From then on, it was Flint who showed her clinical quality in front of goal. Just before the hour mark, Rovers made it five when Flint twisted and turned, before drilling the ball home from the edge of the box.
The new recruit then delicately knocked the ball past the Pompey keeper to complete her hat-trick, before rounding the keeper just a minute later to make it a magnificent seven.
