Rovers Ladies progressed to the third round of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool Feds.
In a game of few chances, Alex Taylor grabbed the winner after Kaylea Cunliffe’s opener had been cancelled out in the first half.
Rovers went into the game off the back of a 7-0 victory over Portsmouth, while Liverpool took Middlesbrough to extra-time in last week’s thrilling FA Cup tie.
The opening goal came after just five minutes when Saffron Jordan was sent clear down the right and her low drive was met by Cunliffe, who powered home at the near post.
However, the hosts levelled on 19 minutes when they countered down the right and Rosie Havelin’s low cross was curled around Danielle Hill by Carla Lee.
The game continued to be a scrappy affair after the break, with neither side creating any chances of note until the 73rd minute. Jordan again claimed the assist, playing in Taylor on the left, who looped the ball into the far corner.
In the closing stages, Hill was forced to make a terrific save in the Rovers goal and despite some late Liverpool pressure, Gemma Donnelly’s side saw the game out to book their place in round three.
ROVERS: Hill, Jukes, Cook, McDonald, Pearson, Shepherd, Holbrook, Fenton, Cunliffe (M. Taylor 78), Jordan, A. Taylor.
Unused substitutes: Size, Walsh, Montgomery, Thompson.
Meanwhile, Rovers Ladies will play Chorley in the final of the Lancashire FA Women’s County Cup following their 6-0 victory over Fleetwood Town Wrens.
