Rafael Camacho was the star, scoring a hat-trick and grabbing an assist as Liverpool comfortably beat Rovers U18s 1-6 on Saturday morning.

Led by Liverpool and England legend Steven Gerrard, the Merseysiders got off to a great start, with that man Camacho scoring inside the opening three minutes.

Just two minutes later and the visitors had their second of the day with Edvard Tagseth scoring to make it a perfect start for the table-toppers.

Rovers struggled to get going and Liam Millar put the Reds 0-3 up in 13 minutes when he latched onto Camacho's pass to bury past Matthew Campbell.

Kyle Connell's goal midway through the half gave Billy Barr's side of a comeback, but that was soon extinguished as the visitors bagged another two goals as Camacho completed his triple with strikes in the 50th and 52nd minute to kill off any potential Rovers fightback.

Further gloss was added to the scoreline one minute from time with Canadian striker Millar completing his brace as Gerrard's table-topping outfit ran out comfortable winners.

And Billy Barr was critical of his players, saying they were "awful".

“You have to take the good and the bad and on this occasion we were very bad," he said honestly.

“We were awful at the start, didn’t stick to our gameplan and went 0-2 down early on.
“Strangely we could have come in at half time 3-2 down. It could have been different. We could have been really bad but come in at the break just a goal between us and Liverpool.
“There were some harsh words at half time, we made it clear to the lads that it wasn’t good enough.
“We got a killer blow in the second half. George Wilson puts a great cross in but nobody’s there to tap it in, they clear it and it's 4-1 and game over.
“Liverpool were far better than us. Our lads need to wake up and realise that you have to be concentrated and ready. There’s quite a few of the team not contributing.
“We’ve given contracts out to eight under-16s and they are now part of our squads. The older lads need to show what they can do or they’ll be out and the under-16 lads will be in," Barr concluded.
