New Rovers recruit Adam Armstrong is eager to do similar to what another certain Geordie striker did for the club - even if it was achieved two years before the loanee was even born!

Armstrong signed on loan from Newcastle United on Tuesday morning and almost straight away it was mentioned that - aside from Danny Graham - another Geordie frontman has also scored plenty of goals for Rovers.

That man is, of course, Alan Shearer. The forward scored a whopping 131 goals in 172 games for Rovers and played his part in the club winning the Premier League back in the 1994-95 season.

And Armstrong is hoping to do similar and assist in Rovers' hunt for honours come the end of this current campaign.

"We all know how well Alan Shearer did here," Adam said to iFollow with a smile.

"He's a legend at both Blackburn and Newcastle. His goals speak for themselves, really.

"I used to watch him quite a lot. He's one I always looked up to growing up, playing football and the way he conducted himself off the pitch as well.

"He's every boy's local hero. He did well for Newcastle and he's a legend here which makes things better as well. I hope I can score goals here like he used to."

You can see Adam's potential Rovers debut this Saturday for the huge clash at Ewood Park against Shrewsbury.
