The games continue to come thick and fast for Damien Johnson's Development Squad, who head to Cardiff on Thursday afternoon to tackle the Bluebirds in the Premier League Cup.

The group stages of Group B are tight and Rovers know a win will see them leapfrog table-topping Southampton and onto the top of the group.

But Cardiff can also gain greatly from a win, with the three points putting them above Rovers and into second place in the group.

The last meeting between the two in this competition certainly had plenty of entertainment value, with a Joe Nuttall brace either side of a Dan Butterworth strike saw Rovers score three times at Leyland.

But the visitors grabbed a trio of goals themselves, with Callum Paterson - now a first fixture in the first team under Neil Warnock - scored a hat-trick to share the spoils back in October 2017.

In terms of team news, it's highly likely that Joe Nuttall will be involved against the Bluebirds, whilst Lewis Travis will also play a part due to still being suspended for first team games.

New signing Okera Simmonds is expected to be in the squad, as could be Oliver Byrne, who only signed last week, ironically from Cardiff.

But Joe Rankin-Costello is likely to be missing due to injury, with the midfielder unavailable for the last few games.

Cardiff have won three of their last four games coming into this one, but their last result was a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Bristol City.

The game at the Leckwith Athletics Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday 22nd February, kicks-off 12pm.
