Mowbray: Jack inflicted first half Payne on Walsall

Boss pleased with loanee's display at Banks's Stadium

Before joining Rovers, Jack Payne had lost each of his five games against Walsall.

It was obviously a statistic we didn't want to bring up prior to the Saddlers' visit to Ewood Park back at the end of January.
But since then, Payne's earned a 100% winning record against those opponents in Rovers' blue-and-white for the Huddersfield Town loanee.
The 23-year-old tormented Jon Whitney's side that night at Ewood and did the same in a frantic first half at the Banks's Stadium on Saturday, bagging an assist and nearly notching another had Adam Armstrong's strike cracked the bar and bounced over the line rather than away.
And boss Tony Mowbray was left impressed by the number 19's display in the Midlands at the weekend.
“Jack’s a very talented young man. In the first half his contribution was exceptional," the manager reflected after the 2-1 win.
“Once we lost control of the game at time, his lack of physical presence makes him less effective.
“But at home, with Bradley [Dack] and Jack together, they are quite scintillating when they link up. He’ll have a big part to play in the next 12 games of the season and I’m happy enough with his performance."
Will Jack get the nod in Tuesday night's clash at AFC Wimbledon? With tickets for the game sold out, you can watch the game live on the big screens in Blues Bar and tickets for the event can be purchased by clicking here.
