Damien Johnson was delighted to see his side return to winning ways - and in some style - as Rovers Under-23s defeated their Cardiff City counterparts 3-0 in the Premier League Cup.
Tyler Magloire, Lewis Mansell and Joe Nuttall were all on target in the impressive victory, which secured Rovers' place in the knockout phase of the competition with a game to spare.
"It was a really pleasing professional away performance," said Johnson.
"I asked the lads to respond to the Brighton defeat in the right way, and they did, against a gritty Cardiff side who grind out results.
"It was good to get a couple of early goals and we were generally pretty comfortable thereafter. In the end, we could have won by more.
"We changed formation, which was a test for them, but by and large they adapted really well. There are still things to improve on, but overall it was a really pleasing performance.
"It's always good when your strikers score and they looked a threat all afternoon. The only downside was that they could have added to their tally if we had been a little bit more clinical.
"We kept the back door shut, which was just as important.
"Ultimately, it was important to get the job done today and it's pleasing to progress to the knockout stage.
"It would be nice to finish top of the group, but I believe it's an open draw in the last 16, so we'll see what happens against Southampton on Monday in our final group game."
Johnson’s side are next in action on Monday 26th February against the Saints at the Lancashire FA HQ in Leyland, kick-off 7pm.
