Joe Nuttall turned on the style as Rovers Under-23s breezed past Doncaster Rovers Under-23s in the Premier League Cup at Leyland.
Nuttall hit a first half hat-trick to put Rovers into command going into the break before adding a fourth just before the hour mark.
The 21-year-old added a fourth just before the hour to completely kill the game off, and that was to be that as Rovers made easy work of Donny.
Damien Johnson made three changes for the cup clash against Donny, with Ollie Byrne, Stefan Mols and Ben Paton coming in for Andy Fisher, Lewis Travis and the suspended Dan Butterworth.
The visitors included former Rover Paul Taylor in their starting XI, whilst there were also starts for first team duo Jermaine Anderson and Malik Wilkes.
A strong start from Rovers saw Paton rifle over after Lewis Thompson's cross was nodded into the path of the Canadian just eight yards out.
At the other end, Alfie Beestin cut in from the right before unleashing a left-footed effort that flew well over Ollie Byrne's goal.
But 18 minutes in it was the hosts who got the goal their early play deserved as Nuttall tapped home a Stefan Mols cross following a quick throw in.
A moment later and it was almost 2-0, with Mitchell Lund almost putting a low Brad Lyons cross into his own net as Rovers looked to add to their advantage in quickfire fashion.
Rovers continued to press, and after Nuttall saw Marko Marosi in his way, Brad Lyons saw his header blocked on the line.
But Rovers didn't have to wait too much longer, with Nuttall confidently slamming home a penalty just after the half hour mark after Mols was taken down in the box.
Nuttall completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half time after he nodded home a left-wing cross from Paton to complete a dream first half for Johnson's charges.
Doncaster made forays forward early into the second half, with Taylor heading wide after a cross from Issam Ben Khemis.
But if there was any doubt of the result, Nuttall made due of a win for the hosts as he thumped a curling effort into the back of the net despite Marosi getting a glove on his strike.
Soon after an audacious attempt from Brad Lyons saw the Northern Irishman lob Marosi, but the ball bounced just past the post.
The away outfit twice tested Ollie Byrne in quick succession, with Anderson forcing the Rovers goalkeeper to get down and hold his strike from long range.
The Yorkshire side were reduced to 10 men when skipper Shane Blaney was sent off for a second yellow card, and it turned out to be a dream evening for the team who got off the mark in the Premier League Cup.
