Rovers Ladies captain Lynda Shepherd was delighted to finish 2018 with a 3-1 win over Sunderland Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Cup.

That victory extended the Blues’ winning run to 17 games in all competitions, with 10 straight league wins seeing Rovers top the table at Christmas.

Shepherd said: “It’s brilliant but we’re only half way through so hopefully we go and kick on in the New Year.

“There’s still more to come from this team and I really do believe that. Hopefully we can get better and better.”

Rovers are also in the Third Round of the FA Cup, the Quarter Final of the League Cup and the County Cup Semi Final.

The team have netted 95 times during the season so far and top scorers Saffron Jordan and Natasha Flint have scored 48 of those.

“They are brilliant, the pair of them,” Shepherd commented.  “They bring such different qualities to the team.

“But it’s every player, it’s not all about them. They are the first people to say that. It’s a collective, we win together and we lose together.”

“They both got on the scoresheet (against Sunderland), so they’ll be happy with that and they were great finishes from Saffron and Tash.

“But the results are the only thing that matter.”

Next up for the Ladies is the SSE Women’s FA Cup Third Round tie away to Oxford United Women on Sunday 6th January, (2pm).
