It's now eight goals in his last four games for Joe Nuttall, as he helped Rovers Under-23s to an emphatic victory over Arsenal at Boreham Wood's Meadow Park.

Nuttall wasn't the only player to hit a brace on the night, with Northern Irish midfielder Brad Lyons bagging a double of his own to continue his fine goalscoring form with a third strike in two games.

Rovers had Matty Platt back in the squad as the youngster using the clash against the Gunners as a chance for valuable minutes.

Damien Johnson was also boosted by the return of Joe Rankin-Costello to the squad following a couple of months out injured.

For the hosts, Charlie Gilmour and Zech Medley were handed starts after featuring in the Europa League last week, while Xavier Amaechi made a return from injury.

It was Lyons who handed Rovers the dream start in Hertfordshire, as a fine run down the left led to the midfielder lashing home into the bottom right-hand corner.

At the other end, Tyreece John-Jules saw his strike beaten away from danger by Andy Fisher as the home side looked for a response.

Platt headed wide for Rovers as they looked for a second goal before the break, whilst Ben Sheaf's free kick for the hosts flew wide of the target.

Whilst Rovers held a slender advantage at half time, they certainly turned on the style after the break with a terrific display.

Lyons again was the scorer, as he picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, turned inside and unleashed a brilliant strike that nestled into the net just a couple of minutes into the second half.

And with 19 minutes remaining it was Nuttall who killed the game off from the spot after Sheaf was adjudged to have handled in the box.

There was still time left for Nuttall to complete his brace and add Rovers' fourth of the night late on, as he produced a simple finish to ensure the visitors made it three wins in their last three outings.
