Development Squad chief Damien Johnson says he can see the "hunger" in Joe Nuttall's eyes after the striker made it six goals in his last three Under-23s outings.
Following a goal against West Ham United at Ewood Park at the end of November, Nuttall followed the strike up with all four goals in the 4-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the Premier League Cup.
The frontman wasn't done there, and found the net earlier this week against Swansea City back in Premier League 2 to continue his fine form.
And Johnson has been delighted by what he's seen from the powerful 21-year-old striker.
“In the last month or so, Joe’s taken on board the manager’s messages and I can see that hunger in his eyes and the fire in his belly," Johnson said after the victory over the Swans.
“It was that hunger that earned him the deal when he first joined the club last year.
“He’s been asking to get involved in extra sessions with our group and I think we’re seeing the rewards of that at the moment.
“We talk a lot about when lads head up into the first team squad. Sometimes you don’t play as regularly as you’d like and there is perhaps a tendency to fall through the cracks a little bit.
“You need match minutes, and maybe Joe has suffered a little bit from that.
“But it’s also up to the individual to keep going, and Joe’s certainly doing that right now.”
