Damien Johnson was left delighted after his side recorded back-to-back victories and rose off the bottom of the table with victory over Swansea City earlier today.

Goals from Brad Lyons, Joe Nuttall and Dan Butterworth handed Rovers a deserved half time lead at the Academy against the Swans.

George Byers and then Butterworth were shown straight red cards in the clash before Adam Lewis pulled a goal back to earn a late consolation for the visitors.

And speaking after the game against the Welsh side, Johnson was thrilled by his team's near complete display.

“We’re delighted to win the game. In the first half our performance was terrific," the former Northern Ireland international said.

"We showed that intensity and our pressing and quality carried on from last week’s game against Doncaster.

“When they went down to 10 men it was about us managing the game and keeping hold of the ball.

“It’s difficult when you play against 10 men because some teams can get sloppy and stop doing what they’ve been doing so well.

“We could have got four or five in the second half before the situation with Dan’s sending off changed things for us."

And on the red cards to Byers and Butterworth, Johnson felt the jury was out on both decisions made by the referee.

"They felt unjust with their red card. I haven’t seen it again," he added.

“It was then just a constant appealing to the referee and you almost felt as though there might be a tendency, subscontiously, to even it up.

“It was important not to give an opportunity of giving a red but that was disappointing what Dan did and something he had to learn from.”
