Rovers newcomer Harrison Reed says some old team-mates had an impact on making the switch to Ewood Park.

Reed put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal from Southampton earlier today to become our sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

And the 23-year-old admitted he did his research on the boss and the club before making the decision to head north, but the glowing reports pushed him towards East Lancashire.

“Sam Gallagher had a loan spell here and had some great things about the club and the manager," he said to iFollow Rovers.

"Jack Stephens was another who worked with the manager at Coventry, as was James Maddison, who I played with last season.

“I had a lot of people to speak to. Once I spoke to the manager, everything they said was right.

“They said he is a great guy who loves football. From the day I met him it was just football, football, football. He loves to chat. They were right!"

Reed has played for Southampton this pre-season but admits it may take him a little while to get up to speed.

“I’ve had limited game time in pre-season but have been training hard. We’ll speak to the manager and we’ll go from there," he adds.

“I’ll set some targets now the move is done, but I do like to take things game by game. That takes the pressure off myself and allows me to enjoy my football."
