Rovers sadness over ex-player's passing

Rovers are saddened to hear the passing of former player Dave Hargreaves.

Born in Accrington, Hargreaves - who was affectionately known as Haggis - began his career with his hometown club before joining Rovers in 1977 after a goal-filled spell at Stanley.

He was given his debut by Jim Smith in our 5-2 away defeat at Blackpool, but his time at Ewood Park was plagued by injury and he departed two years later to return to Accrington, where he would leave as the club's record goalscorer.

He amassed 309 goals in 322 games across his two spells with our near neighbours and remained a constant at Stanley after hanging up his boots.

We'd like to send our condolences to Dave's family and friends at this sad time.
