"We need to make it a fortress and make sure it’s a tough place for teams to come to." That's the message from Joe Nuttall as Rovers aim to continue their fine form at Ewood Park.

The 2017-18 campaign was a breakthrough one for the young forward, who was rewarded for his plethora of goals in the Under-23s with a place in the first team squad.

He bagged five goals in his first team outings last term and is a part of the squad for our return to the Championship this season, coming off the bench at Ipswich Town and replacing Danny Graham at Ipswich Town last week.

The 21-year-old feels fitter and sharper than in his first campaign at Ewood Park, and believes the good times can continue to roll in East Lancashire for the club.

“Last season showed we can play good football and hopefully we can carry on that exciting play," he said to iFollow Rovers. "We’re unbeaten at Ewood for quite a while. We need to make it a fortress and make sure it’s a tough place for teams to come to.

“We’ve stepped up a level, a better level. The work we’ve put into pre-season will hopefully stand us in good stead. We’ve learnt a lot since the summer. Last week showed that we can never switch off in this league.
“There’s always nerves on the first day of the season and I’m sure we’ll get better as the season goes on. The competition is fierce and it encourages everyone else to do better. There’s still a really good vibe in the camp.
“Looking back, we can take confidence from the display. I don’t think they caused us any real problems and we performed well."
“No team is going to be a pushover in the Championship. We have to fight every day to get the points on the weekends. It’s a long season and we’re a good enough team to do well in the division in my opinion."
