Boss not bothered who gets the goals

Tony Mowbray says he's not fussed where the goals come from in his side, as long as the team score more than their opponents, with just five games remaining this season.

Ahead of Saturday's clash with Bristol Rovers, the boss has been asked about the confidence of Dominic Samuel, who impressed in the reverse fixture against the Gas at Ewood Park in November.

He hasn't scored since, but with the team winning, Tony isn't too worried and has belief that Samuel will come up trumps for the club again before the end of the season.

“Dominic has found himself out of the side but it’s only because Danny Graham is scoring goals, I would say," Mowbray told iFollow Rovers.

“If you think back to the start of the season, we saw Danny out of the side and Dominic scoring the goals. He scored against Bristol Rovers in the home game but at this moment Danny is the man leading the line.

“Dominic has to be patient and seize the opportunity when it comes. It’s not always easy to sit on the bench and then come on and make an impact but that’s what he has to do," the manager added.

“I thought he did alright the other night at Gillingham. He got on the ball, held it up for the team, but didn’t really get a clear sight at goal. He knows the law of the land - when you have the number 9 on the back you have to score goals,"

And Tony continued that he has to be ruthless when it comes to his strikers, with just the five games remaining of the season to decide Rovers' destiny.

“Dominic’s been brought here to score goals and the same goes for Danny Graham, Bradley Dack and Adam Armstrong. If you go too long without scoring then you’ll end up finding yourself on the bench.

“I don’t mind who scores the goals. If Dom is not playing with confidence and doesn’t score, there’s no empathy for him. I have to make sure the team functions. That’s the way football is - we have to win games."
