Damien Johnson has hailed the mentality of his Development Squad as the team close in on the Premier League 2 title.
Rovers need only a point from their remaining two games to clinch the league and take on Aston Villa Under-23s this evening, who themselves have had a good campaign.
And speaking to iFollow Rovers ahead of the crunch clash against the second placed Villans, Johnson has praised his side for jumping every hurdle so far this term under his guidance.
“It’s been a fantastic run. Most teams in the league will tell you they have a good group but we’ve applied ourselves well and set standards," Damien says.
"It’s been really competitive all season. They have dealt with all the challenges the season has brought them.
“The mentality and the desire to keep pushing themselves is vital for any young player. They need to show the manager that he can trust them to play games. We need more to push through into the first team environment."
A winning mentality is of huge importance for any young player, and with the title almost in their grasp, Johnson switches from manager to player when urging his team to grasp the opportunity.
“Having had a career myself, you don’t have the chance to win things too often," the ex-Rovers and Birmingha City midfielder adds.
"The lads have been together for a long time and if they could do something then it would be created together. The carrot is there for them but there is still plenty of hard work to do for Monday’s game."
Kick-off at Ewood Park is 7pm this evening and with admission FREE of charge, it would be great to see as many fans as possible in attendance to get behind the lads!
