Rovers returned to winning ways with a great victory at home to Sunderland in the Under-18 Premier League.

Jack Vale bagged a brace on the day, the second one a penalty after Kyle Connell had handed Rovers an early lead.

And although Connor Slack pulled one back for the visitors, Rovers held on to pick up the three points against Mark Atkinson's side.

Things couldn't have started much better for Rovers, with Connell slotting home after getting on the end of a Flavien-Enzo Boyomos ball after just six minutes of the encounter.

And things got better for Billy Barr's outfit after Vale was on hand to double the tally just six minutes later to make it a dream start.

The hosts went in at the break with the advantage but knew Sunderland would come at them in the second half.

But it was Rovers who grabbed the crucial third goal of the game and it came from the right boot of Vale, who cooly slotted home a penalty just before the hour mark.

Although Slack prevented Ben Winterbottom from earning a clean sheet with 11 minutes to play, Rovers held on for a morale boosting victory to climb into double figures in points this season.

Rovers are next in action against Manchester City at Broackhall Village on Tuesday 10th April, kick-off 11am.
