Boss Tony Mowbray felt it wasn't right to risk Charlie Mulgrew in Saturday's match at Rochdale.

The Rovers captain sustained an ankle injury whilst away on international duty and was touch and go whether he'd be fit for the clash at Spotland.

Mulgrew wanted to play through the pain, but it was felt best he missed the match that Rovers ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

"We had pretty in-depth conversations on Friday morning," revealed Mowbray.

"Amazing credit to Charlie he was considering taking an injection to play in the game.

"But I didn't see how it could be that we put him on a team-sheet, have an injection half an hour before a game, and then him not feel as if it was quite right.

"So between us and the medical department, we took the decision that we'll see how he is on Monday and we'll assess it.

"Hopefully it will settle down a little bit more over the weekend and he'll be available for Tuesday.

"That said, Paul Downing had a faultless debut for the football club."

Tickets for Tuesday's match against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park are currently on open sale currently priced at Adults £22, Seniors £15, Students £15 (must produce valid NUS Card). Under 21s £15. Under 18s £6. Under 12s Free of charge (Maximum of two per paying adult).
