Rovers and Derby County's Under-18s played out a goalless draw at Brockhall on Saturday.
In a match short of meaningful chances, the Rams enjoyed the better of the first half, whilst Rovers improved after the break.
It was always going to be a test for Billy Barr's side, with five players making their first starts in this season's U18 Premier League, including a back four featuring Isaac Whitehall and Enzo Boyomo from the Under-16s.
Their prospects then weren't helped when one of their experienced players, defender Andy Jackson, limped off inside five minutes with a hamstring injury.
But to their credit Rovers showed a good resolve to their play, with keeper Matty Campbell making a couple of decent saves, and that allowed the home side to get better as the match wore on.
However the young Rovers could never gain a decent foothold in a game not helped by a flurry of bookings which lead to a stop-start affair.
Daniel Pike and Luke Brennan added to the Under-16 contingent in the closing stages, coming on as second half substitutes as Rovers saw the game out to claim a worthwhile point.
"It was a great development day for them," said Barr. "That is two positive results in two weeks for our young squad
"We know we have to be better in and out of possession, we have plenty to work on during the week.
"But going forward it can only stand them in good stead getting all these opportunities."
