Rovers Ladies put in a five-star performance on Sunday against local side Blackburn Community Sports Club.
The two sides were matched together in the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Challenge Cup with the winners earning the right to host Fylde Ladies in the quarter-finals.
With a one-sided game expected, Rovers started on the front foot and found themselves a goal to the good within 60 seconds. Chelsey Jukes slipped the ball nicely through to Jess Holbrook, who on the half-volley, smashed the ball across the goal to open the scoring.
Holbrook, challenged with scoring more goals by the coaching team, duly delivered again on 25 minutes when a ball played centrally was intelligently dummied by captain Lynda Shepherd, leaving Holbrook alone against the keeper, slotting the ball underneath and doubling Rovers’ lead.
A third would be added before the interval, when Saffron Jordan played a wonderful deep cross for Meghan Taylor to poke home and grab her first competitive goal for the club at senior level.
The woodwork would be hit over five times for Rovers in the game, but none closer than a spectacular effort by Faye McCoy, with the community keeper making a terrific save onto the woodwork and for a corner.
Before the hour, Holbrook would have her hat-trick. Picking the ball up close to the edge, before scoring a similar goal to the first, drilling the ball low across goal.
Rovers wrapped the game up with just over 15 minutes left on the clock, when substitute Alex Taylor crossed low for Saffron Jordan, who relieved her frustration in front of goal and added Rovers fifth with a smart low drive.
Rovers will now face a local derby, hosting Fylde Ladies at Bamber Bridge on Sunday 8th October 2017.
