Downing hopes to learn off Mowbray

The chance to work with boss Tony Mowbray once more was a huge factor in convincing Paul Downing to make the move to Ewood Park.

The central defender made the deadline day switch to Rovers from MK Dons on a season-long loan, linking up with his former manager from his time as a youngster at West Bromwich Albion.

Downing is delighted to be with Mowbray once more, and hopes that under his tutelage he can improve as a footballer.

"I've obviously worked with the manager before so I'm really looking forward to that," said Downing.

"It was a big factor, he is a great manager and hopefully I can learn lots from him. He played in my position when he played, so I'm looking forward to working with him and improving as a player.

"I'm looking forward to getting out there, working hard and helping the team to win games on a Saturday."

Downing was an unused substitute as Rovers defeated his former club last time out, so he knows the potential of his new team having seen them at close quarters.

"Obviously we played the last game," added the 25-year-old.

"I saw how well the lads played and it was a good win. So hopefully everyone is confident, we've won the last couple of games so if we can maintain that and keep consistent then we can definitely be near the top.

"I thought it was really impressive, they did all the basics well, competed better than we did, passed the ball and got into some dangerous areas and scored some good goals on the day as well.

"So it was a much deserved three points for Blackburn. I was impressed watching them."

Downing could make his debut for Rovers after the international break when they travel to take on Rochdale.

Tickets for the match at the Crown Oils Arena are currently on open sale priced at £22 for Adults, £16 for Seniors 65 and over, £16 for 17-21 year-olds and £5 for Juniors aged 16 and under.

Fans are reminded that there are no sales on the day at Rochdale so advanced purchase is necessary.
