A hectic day but glad to get the deals done

Tony Mowbray was satisfied with the business he was able to get done on transfer deadline day.

The Rovers boss made three signings on Thursday, bringing in midfielder Rekeem Harper on loan from West Bromwich Albion, signing full-back Sam Hart on a two-year deal from Liverpool, and late in the day, securing the services of centre-back Paul Downing on loan from MK Dons for the season.

Mowbray felt the signings were needed to be made in order to add competition for places to his first team squad, so was pleased to successfully conclude his transfer business for the summer.

"It was a long day," said the Rovers boss. "But it is always the same, it is exciting.

"We had a spell of two or three hours where it was extremely hectic, dealing with lots of agents at the same time, trying to put players in different rooms and trying to get the deals finished.

"Here we are, we've signed a few players, we've let one move on, and now the window is shut and we'll get on with it.

"I think we've got some good experienced footballers who are important players for our squad. I work with them every day and I think they are going to come up trumps for us this year.

"But I do feel as if we also needed to add some fresh, youthful, energetic, athletic footballers around the building as well.

"We've added competition in areas where we needed to add competition. We've added a left back in Sam Hart, we've added a centre-half in Paul Downing.

"They are young players, but players who are very very keen to try and force their way into this fantastic club's first team.

"But it is amazing just how hectic that last day is. Why so many things happen so late.

"I look forward to next year when hopefully the window shuts before the season kicks off it that is what is going to happen."
