Rovers Ladies’ 100 per cent start to the season came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City.

The first real chance of the game resulted in a Rovers goal, as Kaylea Cunliffe converted Meghan Taylor's low cross at the back post on the break.

The lead didn't last long however, as just five minutes later, Stoke equalised. A corner was whipped in from the right, before the ball fell kindly for Emily Owens to level the scores.

Taylor should have put Rovers back in front on the half-hour mark, but her volley from close range was blasted wide, before Stoke's Cassie Hyde couldn't poke home from close range.

Rovers dominated the second half, with Taylor going close to scoring on the hour mark, but her goal-bound shot was blocked. Jess Holbrook then saw an effort from the edge of the area go inches wide.

Disappointed just to pick up a point, the result extended Rovers’ unbeaten run in the league to 28 games.

Rovers return to Bamber Bridge on Sunday when they host Nottingham Forest, with admission priced at £4 for adults and £2 for kids.

Rovers: Hill, Cook, MacDonald, Jukes, Pearson, Shepherd, Holbrook, Fenton, Taylor, Cunliffe, Jordan. Subs: Pottinger, Walsh, Stevens, Fryer.
