Daniel Butterworth scored a late consolation as a strong Rovers Under-18s side went down 4-1 at home to league leaders Manchester United.
United led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a 36th-minute opener from England Under-17 World Cup winner Angel Gomes.
Defender James Garner doubled the visitors' lead shortly after the restart, before Gomes grabbed his second of the game on 74 minutes.
D'Mani Bughail-Mellor added a fourth soon after, before former United forward Butterworth kept up his recent run of good form by netting against his old club six minutes from time.
