Barr: Let's seize our chance against Wrexham

Despite claiming the first round win against Tranmere was Rovers' finest display of the campaign, coach Billy Barr still seeks improvement ahead of the home clash against Wrexham on Wednesday evening.

Barr was delighted with progression against Tranmere Rovers in round two of the FA Youth Cup, where his side will face Wrexham at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening, but knows his side must be clinical against the Welsh visitors.

"The performance against Tranmere was probably our best display of the season," Barr reflected to iFollow.

"We kept the ball really well and retained possession, which was one of the main focusses of the evening. It was a very pleasing night for us.

"We had 26 chances on the night and scored one goal. We were snatching at chances - which I think was down to the emotion of the game - and we've been working really hard on our end product since then.

"We're giving the lads a chance to get familiar with the Ewood experience in the build up to the game. We want it to feel like it's just another game. Over the last couple of years with our young lads at Ewood Park we've struggled to deal with some of the undue pressure we put on ourselves playing at a big stadium, which has led to inconsistencies in performances.

"We're used to being the underdogs and nowadays teams are coming for us, no disrespect to Tranmere. We just have to focus on ourselves and aim to be better than the last game, if we can."

And the Professional Development Phase Lead Coach wants his young team to seize the opportunity and ensure progression to round three of the competition, with the prize for the winners being a home tie against Stoke City.

"We're not used to come into these early rounds at Blackburn for the last 20 or 30 years so it's a slightly different process for us this time around.

"But these sort of nights have been the start of young lads going on to have careers after impressing the right people. The first team staff were at Tranmere in the last round and a number of them will be at Ewood for the game, too, so it's a big opportunity for the lads."

*The tie will take place at Ewood Park on Wednesday November 15th, kick-off 7pm.
