SIFL's 'On The Pitch!' kicks off Community Trust events in style

13 May 2017

The Social Inclusion Football League's 'On The Pitch!' tournament for Mental Health Awareness Week proved to be the perfect start to the Community Trust's summer events on the Ewood pitch.

The winners on the day were the superb Men Dive In Development FC, who pipped the eye-catching team from The ARC Project in the final, but the main focus was on the enjoyment and inclusivity of this fantastic project.

A total of 21 teams - an increase on the numbers that took part in the equivalent tournament last year - made their way to Blackburn to enjoy a change of scenery, with the competition moving just 150 yards up the road from its usual base at the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre.

The league aims to help people from a variety of backgrounds that can leave them feeling marginalised from society, such as mental health concerns, substance misuse rehabilitation or asylum seeker and refugee status. Every fortnight, the league meets at the BRIC to help the teams feel included, make new friends and open doors to new chances to enrich themselves, such as opportunities to undertake refereeing or coaching qualifications.

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust have five further days of events planned at Ewood Park this month to help local residents from all walks of life experience the same thrill of playing at Ewood Park, with next week kicking off with the Kinder +Sport Move and Learn Tournament for primary schools on Monday and the Blackburn and Darwen Secondary Schools Sports Association cup finals scheduled for Tuesday.
