An injury-time winner from midfielder Jess Holbrook earned Rovers all three points against last year’s league winners West Bromwich Albion.
Rovers started quick. Alex Taylor’s long range effort in the 4th minute being tipped over by the West Brom goalkeeper.

From the restart, Rovers continued to hold most of the possession, being very patient in attack. A mistake at the back in the 27th minute allowing Saffron Jordan a shot at goal but strikes straight at the goalkeeper.
Ten minutes later, West Brom had a chance to equalise. Darby unable to connect to a pull back from the by-line.
The second half started in a very similar fashion to the first half. Ellie Stewart having a shot a distance in the 50th minute. However, this time, her shot curled high and wide of the goal.
Five minutes later saw Ella Toone double the Rovers lead. Natasha Fenton playing a long and high ball over the Baggies defence. Toone latching onto it and calmly lobbing the goalkeeper.
West Brom didn’t look dead and buried. Albion pulled one back in the 63rd minute. A pull back and low shot off the back of a corner is knocked through Hill’s legs.
The Baggies used the momentum that was in their favour to push on and get an equaliser. It only took 5 minutes to do so. A West Brom floating free kick is deflected into the Rovers goal now making it anyone’s game.
Rovers looked to push for all three points. Ria Montgomery being introduced into the action in the 88th minute to try and get the winner. Minutes later she is played through at an angle but her shot goes just over!
West Brom looked to be sitting back and soaking up the pressure this late on but it wasn’t long before the high-pressure Blackburn applied payed off. Jess Holbrook knocking the ball into the box and past a defender to slot the ball home and take all three points for her team.
It was almost 4 when Ria Montgomery squared the ball to Ella Toone who couldn’t quite bury it. However, that was the last chance of the game, the referee blew his whistle to seal all three points for Rovers.
