Boss Tony Mowbray felt it was another good workout for his side on Friday night as they defeated Morecambe 2-1.
Danny Graham grabbed his third goal in four pre-season outings with a 10th minute opener, before Elliott Bennett headed home a second.
Morecambe managed to pull a goal back before the break through Rhys Turner's fine strike, and although both sides had chances in the second half, neither added to the goal tally.
Mowbray can see positive signs with the way the team is coming together on the pitch, but was just a little bit frustrated that they couldn't get more goals on the night.
"It was a good workout, I thought they gave us a good game," the manager told iFollow Rovers.
"As you would have expected, they worked extremely hard against us.
"We obviously scored some early goals but I'm disappointed with the goal we conceded. It was a fantastic strike from the boy but we could have avoided it.
"We weren't overly threatened defensively and we created quite a few chances, but we didn't manage to add to our goal tally which was a bit frustrating. But there was plenty of good stuff tonight.
"I think the shape of the team is coming together whatever formation we play, whether it is three or four at the back, one striker or two strikers, wingers or wing-backs, we'll keep working on the basics of what we do and try to just keep going, it is getting closer now and the intensity has got to keep lifting."
Rovers are back in action this Tuesday night when they travel to take on Grimsby Town - kick-off 7.30pm.
Rovers supporters will be accommodated in the Osmond End at Blundell Park and can gain admission by paying cash at turnstiles 15–18 on Harrington Street.
