Rovers youngster Scott Wharton has joined Cambridge United on loan for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
The 19-year-old will link up with the League Two side until Saturday 6 May, with the U's also having permission for him to play for Shaun Derry's side should the promotion-chasers be involved in the end of season play-off places.
Blackburn-born, the central defender has been at the Rovers Academy since an early age, quickly progressing through the age groups to become the captain of Damien Johnson's development squad.
After an ever-present campaign for the Under-23s last season, he featured regularly for the first team this summer in pre-season before making his league debut in the 2-2 draw against Burton Albion at Ewood Park back in August.
He followed that up scoring his first senior goal in the EFL Cup win over Crewe Alexandra three days later. He has since gone on to make four first team appearances plus three in this season's Checkatrade Trophy.
The loan move has been completed in time for Wharton to be considered for Cambridge's home game against Mansfield Town this Saturday.
