Danny Graham hopes Rovers can have a successful 2017 after they claimed a league double over Newcastle United.

The striker was delighted to see their game plan work to perfection against the Magpies thanks to Charlie Mulgrew's second half free-kick.

Graham felt it was another strong performance off the back of the point against Huddersfield on New Years Eve, and hopes the team can now kick on for the second half of the campaign.

"It has been a great response," Graham told Radio Rovers on Monday.

"We went to Huddersfield and had a game plan which almost worked. So to come and back it up with another great performance against a strong Newcastle team can hopefully kick start our season.

"It is a fresh start, it is a new year and hopefully we can have a good 2017 together.

"We had a game plan again to let them have the ball, but I think we have always shown that we are capable of scoring goals so if we can keep it tight then we are always confident that we can nick one and it has worked for us.

"It was a great free-kick, we needed something and he has popped up. He was solid at the back as well, he and Gordon Greer, and Steely made a couple of saves when called upon. It was a real team effort and very pleasing."

Rovers are on FA Cup duty next Saturday when they travel to Loftus Road to take on Queens Park Rangers.

Tickets are currently on open sale for the third round clash with the advanced prices of £10 for Adult season ticket holders, £5 for Senior season ticket holders, £5 for 18-21 year-old season ticket holders and £1 for Under-18s who are season ticket holders.
