Damien Johnson's Under-23s are back in action this Monday afternoon when they take on Burnley in the Premier League Cup.

The young Rovers have a win, a draw and a defeat from their three group games to date, and sit second in group B, four points behind league leaders Sunderland.

Today's match at the Globe Arena gives Rovers the opportunity to consolidate their position in the group as they look to do the double over their near-neighbours.

"The lads have enjoyed playing in this competition," said Johnson.

"The group format means there are more games and it is not just a knockout. Previously it has been a good competition for us and the lads are all looking forward to it."

Rovers kicked off their Premier League Cup group with a comfortable 2-0 win over today's opponents at Ewood Park back in September.

First half goals from Joe Rankin-Costello and Lewis Mansell gave Rovers the points on that day, but the development squad boss is anticipating a closer contest on this occasion.

"Blackburn v Burnley games are always tight," he added.

"A lot of our lads are local lads, we’ve even got a couple of lads from Burnley in the group, so they know what it means so there’s definitely a buzz among the group."

Kick-off at the Globe Arena is at 1pm. Rovers fans can see the game are Morecambe with admission prices of £4 for adults and £2 concessions.
