Newcastle win has to be the catalyst - Coyle

Owen Coyle has called on Rovers not to let Monday's win over Newcastle United count for nothing in the second half of the season.

Charlie Mulgrew's winner meant a league double over the Magpies to close the gap to the teams above them to just a point.

But the Rovers boss knows that they have to now build on the victory and look to move up the table sooner rather than later.

"I've said to the lads that it can't be another false dawn, it has to be the catalyst to kick on because we know we are building a decent team again," Coyle told Radio Rovers after the match.

"We have shown that we can compete with these teams, we've played the top four teams in the league now six times in the last eight games and we've shown that we are not a million miles away.

"We do need to get better and we are beset by injuries but we have shown that we have players who want to come and play for Blackburn Rovers and that is what I want.

"And if there are one or two that feel they should be somewhere else then they can go as far as I'm concerned. I want players to come in and wear that shirt with pride as they did today."

Rovers are on FA Cup duty next Saturday when they travel to Loftus Road to take on Queens Park Rangers.

Tickets are currently on open sale for the third round clash with the advanced prices of £10 for Adult season ticket holders, £5 for Senior season ticket holders, £5 for 18-21 year-old season ticket holders and £1 for Under-18s who are season ticket holders.
