Eccleston Primary School became the first team to qualify for Blackburn Rovers' club finals day in the Kinder +Sport Kids Cup.
The EFL Trust tournament gives schools the length and breadth of the country the chance to compete for the right to represent their club, with the final of the nationwide knockout tournament being played at Wembley ahead of May's Championship Play-Off Final.
Two years ago, Rovers won the competition when Salesbury Primary School went all the way to the final 'under the arch', and such is the clamour to represent the club this year, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust are having to hold six qualifying heats to meet demand!
The team that traveled the furthest to take part on the day also turned out to be the best team in the event, beating St Francis CE Primary School 4-1 in the final, securing the right to return on finals day, to be held on Thursday 26th January. They celebrated their win in the company of Rovers' rising stars Lewis Travis and Matty Platt, who came along to meet and greet all the participating players.
Our thanks go to all the schools that took part in the first heat - many of whom brought two teams. Good luck to Audley Junior School, Holy Souls RC Primary School, Longshaw Junior School, Lower Darwen Primary School, Shadsworth Junior School and St James' Lower Darwen Primary School when we welcome them back to take part again next year.
Want to enter the EFL Kids Cup? We're still inviting 11th hour entries for the remaining heats at the Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre, taking place every afternoon until Friday. Email email@example.com
if your primary school would like to take part.
